THE SCOTSMAN, TUESDAY 30TH DECEMBER 1930
ART UNION DRAW – SIR PATRICK FORD A WINNER – MORE PRIZES THIS YEAR
Considerable interest was displayed in the annual draw for prizes held yesterday in The Galleries, The Mound, Edinburgh, by the Art Union of the Society of Scottish Artists.
Mr Greenhill, CA, presided, and congratulated the Society on this year’s exhibition. There were many works of art there, he said, that they would all like to possess. One means of doing so was by the Art Union, but, of course, he knew there would be very many disappointments. The committee had been successful in disposing of more tickets this year than last year, and so were able to give two additional prizes. These numbered 27, as against 25 last year. It was up to the public of Edinburgh, he concluded, to take a larger interest in the Art Union. It served a very good purpose, and was specially a help to the younger artists.
The draw then took place with the assistance of two young people, who were afterwards presented with a box of chocolates each.
Applause greeted the announcement that Sir Patrick J Ford, hon. president of the Society, had won a £15 prize. By a curious coincidence, the winners of the second and third prizes were of the same address.
