The Alloa Journal 6 July 1895
There passed away on Thursday afternoon the Reverend John Moir, BD, minister of the United Presbyterian Church, Cairneyhill, Dunfermline in connection with which he was ordained in 1876.
For some months he has been in indifferent health but no doubt was entertained until recently of ultimate recovery.
The reverend gentleman, though retiring in disposition, was well-known in the district and very highly respected.
At the University of Glasgow he distinguished himself in oriental languages and though known to be a United Presbyterian student was honoured by the late Professor Weir in him appointing Mr Moir his assistant to conduct a summer tutorial class for the study of Hebrew.
Since his settlement in Cairneyhill he has greatly interested himself in education, having been for some time Chairman of Carnock School Board.
He leaves a widow and four children to mourn his loss.
